The Crafting Cafe's April Challenge - Flights of Fancy

The theme over at the Crafting Cafe this month is "Flights of Fancy", and it's sponsored by Dr Digi's House of Stamps. I've used two of their images (Moon and Cosmo Nut) to create glow in the dark ceiling decorations for my little boy's room. He's 3, and we're about to decorate: the ceiling and top half of his walls will be painted like sky, and the light fitting is shaped like the sun. There'll be aeroplanes and birds for during the day, stars and planets for night time, so these moons and astronaut should fit in really well!

I've coloured a couple of moons of different sizes, and one astronaut using watercolour pencils, then over-painted the 'lit' half of each image with glow in the dark paint and cut out. When the decorating is done, they'll be stuck to the ceiling along with some glow in the dark star stickers and maybe a flying saucer or two :-) For now though, they're attached to his headboard (much to his delight). Sadly all attempts to photograph them glowing in the dark have failed - the paint just isn't bright enough to show up on any of our cameras.  Here are some piccies of them in daylight anyway.

Their temporary home on the headboard

I hope you like them.

What I used:
Images: Dr Digi's House of Stamps digital stamps Moon and Cosmo Nut
Tools: Papermania watercolour pencils, Decoart Glow in the Dark paint

Crafting notes:
  • I painted each image with 3-4 coats of glow in the dark paint on the 'lit' side and one coat on the 'dark' side.  Applying the paint in a splodgy way on the moons gives a more interesting and realistic finish.
